Several players from Louisiana State University (LSU) are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming 2025 Major League Baseball Draft, starting this Sunday in Atlanta. The excitement around the draft is palpable, with rounds 1-3 scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. CT, broadcast live on ESPN and the MLB Network, followed by rounds 4-20 on Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT, which can be streamed on MLB.com.
Among the top prospects is All-American left-hander Kade Anderson, who leads the nation with 180 strikeouts this season and is projected as the No. 2 overall pick, according to MLB.com. He is joined by several other LSU talents on the 2025 MLB.com Top 250 Prospects list, including right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson (No. 40) and Chase Shores (No. 77), second baseman Daniel Dickinson (No. 80), first baseman Jared Jones (No. 101), and outfielder Ethan Frey (No. 119).
Additional notable figures expected to be drafted from LSU include right-handed pitcher Zac Cowan, outfielder Chris Stanfield, and catcher Luis Hernandez, among others. This draft continues the momentum the LSU baseball program has built under head coach Jay Johnson, who has made headlines since his arrival in 2022.
LSU has a legacy of success in the MLB Draft. In 2023, the Tigers made history by having both Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews selected first and second overall, respectively, the first time players from the same school achieved such a feat. Furthermore, that year marked a record 13 LSU players selected, tying the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for the most in a single draft season. The trend of producing high draft picks continued in 2024 with eight pitchers being selected, once again tying an SEC record.
Since 1965, a total of 262 LSU players have been selected in the MLB Draft, highlighting the school’s consistent ability to develop top-tier baseball talent. With 21 first-round selections and an average of nearly seven draft picks per season since 1984, LSU continues to be a powerhouse in college baseball.
