Lowry Takes Early Lead at DP World India Championship

Shane Lowry made a strong start at the DP World India Championship, posting an impressive eight-under 64 to take the lead. Following closely behind is Japan’s Keita Nakajima, just one shot off the pace. In contrast, Rory McIlroy, who left his driver out of the bag, sits five shots back after a rollercoaster round.

Lowry, coming off a missed cut at the Open de España, showcased his skills by birdieing six of his last eight holes. McIlroy, playing for the first time since helping Europe secure a Ryder Cup victory last month, managed to card six birdies against three bogeys for a four-under 68. His round included a notable chip-in from the fringe on the 10th hole but was marred by back-to-back bogeys shortly after.

McIlroy, along with Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood and captain Luke Donald, also shot four-under 68. The famed golfer expressed his surprise at the challenge presented by the Delhi Golf Club, noting the importance of a conservative approach off the tee. “You’re just really trying to be as conservative as possible off the tee and then you’re trying to pick off birdies on the par-fives,” McIlroy commented, acknowledging the difficulties of the course.

Lowry’s performance sets a promising tone for the tournament, and with strong competition, fans can look forward to an exciting contest as the tournament progresses.
