Loveski Deli has officially opened its doors today at 499 Jackson Street in Jackson Square, marking a new era for one of San Francisco’s trendiest neighborhoods. This exciting debut replaces Postscript, a popular café known for its chic vibe and $16 lattes, with a focus on what many consider the best bagels in the Bay Area, now conveniently located just a BART stop away from the office.

The man behind this culinary venture, Chef Christopher Kostow, is no stranger to success, having earned three Michelin stars at The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena. Despite the tragic loss of his celebrated restaurant in the 2020 Glass Fire, Kostow has transitioned to a more casual yet equally ambitious concept with Loveski. He envisions the deli as “the world’s coolest bodega,” aiming to offer more than just bagels.

Originally launched in Napa’s Oxbow Public Market in 2022, Loveski has expanded to Marin County and now to San Francisco, with its name paying homage to Kostow’s family roots. The bagels utilize a unique 30-year-old sourdough starter and are prepared Montreal-style, giving them a distinctive character that sets them apart from typical offerings in the region.

The menu at the new SF location promises to be diverse, with gluten-free options prioritized and a focus on grab-and-go items. Diners can look forward to Japanese-style egg salad sandwiches, refreshing salads, and a well-stocked cold case for those seeking a quick lunch. Unique offerings include lunch items like bone broth, tahini Caesar salad, and a creative breakfast burrito featuring pastrami and latkes. The morning ritual remains intact as Postscript’s popular juices and smoothies continue to be served, ensuring a familiar experience for loyal customers.

The decor of the 2,000-square-foot space retains its minimalist charm, having undergone slight modifications to enhance seating while integrating Loveski’s signature branding. In the midst of a culinary renaissance in Jackson Square, with surrounding eateries like Quince and Cotogna, Kostow’s vision for Loveski aligns with the area’s vibrant atmosphere, where design, tech, and culture intersect.

As Loveski Deli begins its journey, it promises not only to elevate the local food scene but also to honor the legacy of the beloved Postscript, transforming the café space into a hub for quality dining. Open daily from 7 am to 7 pm, the deli invites both longtime locals and newcomers to indulge in its offerings and discover what could be the best bagel experience in the Bay Area.
