Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are celebrating 22 years of marriage. The couple, who got married in September 2002, shared their joy on social media to commemorate the special occasion.
“22 @realfreddieprinze,” Gellar posted on Instagram, accompanied by celebratory emojis. A heartwarming photo featured the pair embracing, with Prinze Jr. wrapping his arms around Gellar.
The couple first met while filming the 1997 horror movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” but they didn’t begin dating until three years later. In 2020, Prinze Jr. recounted how their first date happened by chance when a planned third friend was unable to join them.
“We were just two people at dinner catching up,” he explained. “We had a long car ride and a long dinner and things just happened.”
It wasn’t long before Prinze Jr. realized Gellar was the one for him. He noted that he wasn’t interested in dating anyone else.
Since their wedding, the couple has welcomed two children, Charlotte, 14, and Rocky, 12. In a 2022 discussion, Prinze Jr. revealed that he used to cook for Gellar because he felt she didn’t eat enough. He also served as her driver since she didn’t have a license at the time.
They spent a significant amount of time together during their early days, driving to Wilmington while filming in a small town in North Carolina, which allowed them to grow closer.
Prinze Jr. shared that their different upbringings led to some initial challenges, but eventually, they found common ground that brought them together.
On the topic of maintaining a happy relationship, he humorously remarked on the importance of laughter and the dynamics of their household, where his cooking skills are essential since Gellar does not cook.
