Diane von Fürstenberg recently addressed her husband Barry Diller’s revelation of his sexuality, following his declaration as gay in his memoir, “Who Knew,” published in March 2025. In an interview with Variety released on October 16, the acclaimed fashion designer expressed that their marital dynamic remains unchanged, despite the public interest in Diller’s announcement.
“What’s the difference?” Diane stated, emphasizing that the disclosure has not altered their relationship in any way. Married for 24 years and linked romantically since the late 1970s, Diane made it clear that her support for Barry does not stem from any need to support him through a difficult revelation.
She also reflected on her previous marriage to Prince Egon von Fürstenberg, who had disclosed his bisexuality following their separation in 1972. Notably, Diane remarked, “I married two gay men, OK? I don’t know why, but to me, they’re not gay, so it doesn’t make any difference,” demonstrating her open-minded perspective on love and relationships.
Diane’s candid comments highlight a progressive understanding of identity and companionship, suggesting that labels do not necessarily define the bonds between partners. With a focus on love and mutual respect, the couple continues to thrive amidst the growing visibility of diverse sexual orientations.
