Pam Shriver, a former Wimbledon doubles champion, has shared her journey of caring for her ex-husband, George Lazenby, who is battling dementia. The couple, who were married from 2002 until 2011, had a tumultuous relationship marked by an acrimonious divorce initiated by Pam in 2008. Despite this, they have found a path to reconciliation, especially as George, now 85 and known for his role as James Bond in the 1969 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” faces serious health challenges.

Reflecting on their past, Pam admitted that their communication suffered greatly after the divorce, stating, “We didn’t speak for two years.” However, as George enters a critical phase of his life, Pam has expressed a desire to maintain their newfound connection. “I just want to extend this late period of reconciliation and renewal for as long as I can,” she stated.

In July 2024, George announced his retirement, focusing on spending quality time with his family without mentioning his health struggles. Pam revealed that she became acutely aware of George’s importance in her life when his assisted living facility was devastated by wildfires in Los Angeles. “He only made it out by a whisker,” she recounted, which prompted her to seek a new home for him in Santa Monica.

Pam now dedicates time daily to be with George, participating in activities he enjoys, like watching sports. “I try to spend at least an hour with George every day when I am at home,” she shared. Although George’s condition affects his short-term memory, he often reminisces about stories from his youth, showing that he remains connected to his essence.

Their relationship began to mend during a Thanksgiving dinner in 2011, where they surprisingly found joy in each other’s company. Pam credits their three children—sons George and Sam, and daughter Kait—as being key to keeping communication open. She believes their experience demonstrates that relationships, even those that have suffered greatly, can heal over time.

This remarkable story highlights the resilience of human bonds and the potential for reconciliation and renewal, even after deep struggles. Pam and George stand as a testament to the idea that love and family can inspire healing in the face of life’s challenges.
