Louisville Area Braces for Overnight Snow and Travel Disruptions

Louisville, Ky. (WAVE) – Weather conditions are set to take a turn this evening as an ALERT DAY has been issued. As temperatures rise into the 30s, partly cloudy skies this morning will give way to mostly cloudy conditions by the afternoon.

Beginning tonight, areas along and north of the Ohio River will experience mostly snow, while regions to the south may start with a wintry mix or light rain. By midnight, a shift to all snow is expected across the entire area, continuing through early Tuesday morning. Snow accumulations of 1-3 inches are likely, particularly in southern Indiana and along the Kentucky Parkways.

Although snow will taper off by sunrise on Tuesday, the ALERT DAY will remain in effect due to potential travel disruptions associated with the overnight snowfall.

Expect a cloudy and frigid Tuesday, with temperatures likely remaining below freezing throughout the day. As the clouds partially clear Tuesday night, temperatures will plummet into the teens and low 20s, raising the risk of black ice on untreated, wet roads as conditions refreeze into Wednesday morning.

Forecasters note that the chilly start to December could herald additional wintry weather opportunities in the days ahead, keeping communities on alert as the winter season unfolds.
