Lottie Woad Shines Bright in Women’s Scottish Open Debut!

Lottie Woad showcased her talent impressively in her professional debut, scoring a remarkable second-round 65 to take a two-shot lead in the Women’s Scottish Open. The 21-year-old, who was previously ranked as the world No. 1 amateur from Surrey, managed to outpace her playing partner and current world No. 1, Nelly Korda, with a flawless, bogey-free round.

Expressing her satisfaction with the performance, Woad stated, “I’m happy with that, bogey-free is always nice. I’m just trying to continue the momentum. I’m trying to play well, I’ve got confidence, so I will keep on doing that.”

Having participated in seven major tournaments already, Woad feels equipped to handle the pressures of the competition. “It wasn’t really new; I knew how to deal with it,” she noted. “I’m just going to stick to the plan I’ve had all week, and the same strategy.”

Starting her round at the 10th hole, Woad achieved her first birdie after five holes, then surged ahead with four birdies in a span of seven holes, bringing her total to 12 under par with just one bogey across 36 holes. Following her are Korda and Dane Nanna Koerstz Madsen, both two shots behind.

Woad’s recent success follows her victory at the Irish Open earlier this month, and she made the decision to turn professional just last week after narrowly missing out on a significant prize at the Evian Championship.

In contrast, England’s Charlotte Laffer, who started Friday as the overnight leader, struggled with her performance, finishing with an 82 to miss the cut at plus four. Meanwhile, Ireland’s Leona Maguire is currently tied for eighth place at six-under, and Georgia Hall stands in twelfth place at four-under.

As the women’s golf circuit gears up for the final major of the season, the AIG Women’s Open, set to take place from July 31 to August 3, anticipation builds around whether Woad can maintain her lead and secure another victory. The rising star’s performance offers a promising glimpse into her future on the professional circuit.
