Lori Loughlin Confirmed for Six-Episode Return in When Calls the Heart Season 14 on Hallmark

Lori Loughlin is set to make a return to the Hallmark Channel, several years following her dismissal due to her involvement in a high-profile college admissions bribery scandal. The actress, known for her role as Abigail Stanton in the popular series “When Calls the Heart,” faced significant legal troubles in March 2019 after being charged with paying $500,000 in bribes to secure spots for her daughters at the University of Southern California as purported athletic recruits.

In the wake of the scandal, Hallmark wasted no time in severing ties with Loughlin, leading to her character being written off from the series. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the network has confirmed that Loughlin will reprise her role in six episodes of the upcoming season 14. Hallmark is preparing to launch season 13 in January.

Michelle Vicary, Head of Programming at Hallmark Media, expressed enthusiasm about Loughlin’s return, emphasizing the character’s popularity among fans of the show. “Since the series’ debut in 2014, the character of Abigail Stanton was a fan favorite and beloved by the Hearties,” Vicary stated. She also reiterated the Hallmark brand’s focus on hope, positivity, and connection, which resonates with the show’s core themes.

Production for season 14 is slated to begin next year, with an expected premiere in 2027. Loughlin will reunite with several original cast members, including Erin Krakow and Jack Wagner, re-establishing a connection with the show’s dedicated fanbase.

Loughlin’s journey in “When Calls the Heart” was disrupted when her character had to leave Hope Valley to care for her ailing mother—a narrative adjustment made necessary in light of her abrupt exit from the series. Following her guilty plea to conspiracy charges, Loughlin served a two-month prison sentence and fulfilled community service requirements, while her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, received a five-month sentence.

In a further development, the couple has announced their separation after 28 years of marriage, stating they are living apart but have no legal proceedings underway at this time. As Loughlin navigates her return to television and personal changes, her involvement in “When Calls the Heart” marks a significant chapter in her professional rehabilitation, highlighting the show’s and network’s commitment to forgiveness and strength in storytelling.
