Lonzo Ball Opens New Chapter with Cavaliers After Bulls Trade

Lonzo Ball’s transition to the Cleveland Cavaliers marks a significant chapter in his career following his two-year extension with the Chicago Bulls earlier this year. Ball, who signed the team-friendly deal in February, noted that he anticipated a potential move, considering his attractive $10 million annual salary with a club option for the 2026/27 season. The Cavaliers wasted no time, trading Isaac Okoro to bring him on board in July.

Embracing his new role with a contender, Ball expressed confidence in the mutually beneficial nature of the trade. “I think teams trade to try to get better,” he remarked. “So Chicago did what was best for them, and I think Cleveland did what they thought was best for them.” Currently focused on contributing to the Cavaliers, Ball aims to bring his best performance to the team.

After enduring a challenging recovery period, Ball made a stunning comeback last season, participating in 35 games after sitting out due to ongoing knee problems for two and a half years. The Cavaliers are expected to adopt a cautious approach with him, particularly during back-to-back games, to ensure his health leading into the playoffs.

Despite his move to Cleveland, Ball remains a beloved figure among Chicago fans, receiving a warm tribute video during the Cavaliers’ visit to the United Center. Reflecting on his time in Chicago, he expressed gratitude for the relationships he built both on and off the court. “I loved the city of Chicago, and, as you can see, the fans still rock with me,” he said, adding that he wishes his former teammates and coaches the best as they move forward.

As Ball settles into his new role, there’s a sense of optimism for both him and the teams involved, highlighting the potential for growth and success in the upcoming season.
