Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, alongside a coalition of reform-minded prosecutors from various states, announced an initiative on January 28, 2026, aimed at addressing federal law enforcement overreach. This group, known as the Project for the Fight Against Federal Overreach (F.A.F.O.), seeks to hold federal officials accountable for violations of state laws, particularly concerning the conduct of federal agents in communities across the nation.

The formation of F.A.F.O. comes in response to increasing alarm over practices such as warrantless entries, unlawful detentions, and aggressive enforcement tactics employed by federal authorities. The coalition aims to reinforce constitutional boundaries governing federal power, ensuring these limits are respected and enforced through the appropriate legal channels.

Founding members of the coalition include District Attorneys from several regions, including Mary Moriarty of Minneapolis, Jose Garza of Austin, TX, and Steve Descano from Fairfax, VA, among others. By pooling resources, sharing best practices, and coordinating accountability efforts, the coalition intends to provide ongoing updates to the public regarding its initiatives to curb illegal federal activities and educate communities on their rights.

Krasner emphasized the importance of local prosecutors in upholding the law, stating, “No agency or officer is above the law. When federal agents exceed their lawful authority, local prosecutors have both the power and the duty to act.” This sentiment was echoed by Parisa Dehghan-Tafti, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church, who expressed the determination to assert that federal overreach would not be tolerated.

The coalition is set to meet again in early February to exchange strategies for effectively combating the unlawful actions of federal forces operating outside their jurisdiction. This initiative reflects a growing commitment among local prosecutors to ensure that federal enforcement remains within lawful parameters, striving for a more balanced and accountable legal system.
