Lloyd Injury Looms Over Packers Ahead of Week 10 Showdown with Eagles

Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd continues to contend with a challenging start to his NFL career, which has been marred by injuries. The 2025 season has proven to be no exception, with Lloyd sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on August 16. As of November 5, he has yet to make an appearance this year and has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur provided a discouraging update in late October, indicating that fans should not expect Lloyd to return to the field anytime soon, raising the possibility that the second-year running back might miss the entire season. Initially thought to be a minor soft-tissue injury, Lloyd’s recovery has faced complications, resulting in an extended absence. While he has been eligible to return to practice, the Packers have not yet opened that window, underscoring his struggle to get back into game shape.

Lloyd, who was drafted by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft after playing at USC, encountered multiple setbacks during his rookie season, including an emergency appendectomy that limited his playing time. In his brief NFL tenure, he has participated in just one game, recording six carries for the team.

In Lloyd’s absence, the Packers have been led by running back Josh Jacobs, who has been performing excellently. Through eight games this season, Jacobs has amassed 534 rushing yards and scored 10 touchdowns, earning an impressive PFSN Impact Score of 81.3, ranking him 14th among all running backs. Emanuel Wilson has also stepped up in a big way, showcasing his talent and production, particularly highlighted by a standout 87-yard performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, third-string running back Chris Brooks has seen limited action.

As the season progresses, the Packers’ front office may consider bolstering their backfield depth, especially with Lloyd’s return appearing less likely. Until there are significant improvements in his recovery, it seems fans will have to wait until the 2026 season to witness if Lloyd can finally fulfill the promise that made him a third-round pick. With the Packers set to host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10 of the NFL season on November 10, the focus will remain on how the team can continue to adapt without Lloyd.
