Lizzo has achieved a significant legal victory after a secret recording played a crucial role in undermining accusations made against her by former dancers. The lawsuit, filed by dancers Arianna Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Crystal Williams, included claims of fat-shaming, which the singer has consistently denied. Her legal team, headed by attorneys Marty Singer and Melissa Glass, emphasized that the allegations lack merit, bolstered by 18 witnesses who contradicted the claims in court.
The controversy escalated when Davis was dismissed from her position, which the defense argued was warranted due to her unauthorized recording of a private dancers’ meeting. This recording was allegedly shared with Williams, who was no longer part of Lizzo’s team for “The Special Tour.” As a result of this development, the dancers have now opted to withdraw their appeal regarding the dismissal of the fat-shaming claims.
A Superior Court judge ruled that Davis’ firing was justified based on the secret recordings. Despite this outcome, attorney Ronald Zambrano, representing the dancers, expressed disappointment over the ongoing legal battles, stating that while they maintain confidence in some of their claims, they are choosing to forego further pursuit of those that were dismissed.
While the fat-shaming allegations have been removed from the lawsuit, Lizzo continues to face other serious accusations. Among them are allegations that she pressured the dancers to engage with naked sex performers at Bananenbar in Amsterdam, an establishment known for its provocative acts. Lizzo’s legal representatives assert their confidence in her ability to overcome these remaining claims.
Reflecting on the situation, Lizzo expressed feeling “blindsided” by the accusations during a 2024 interview with Keke Palmer.
