Lismore Flood Recovery Reaches 120-Project Milestone

Lismore City Council is making significant strides in its recovery efforts following the devastating natural disasters of 2022, having accomplished a milestone of 120 completed projects in its Flood Restoration Portfolio, with additional projects nearing completion.

Among the recently finished initiatives are the reopening of Woodlawn Road, which reconnects residents and businesses, and the restoration of the Cabbage Tree Creek Bridge on Hutchinson Road, ensuring vital community access. The refurbishment of the Upper Hollingworth Creek flood gate enhances flood resilience, while the construction of ten new public amenities buildings, including one at the Lismore Railway Station, showcases the commitment to improving local infrastructure.

In addition to these successes, essential upgrades to flood pumps are currently in progress, alongside significant landslip repairs in the hills surrounding Nimbin, suggesting even more advancements will occur in the upcoming year.

Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg acknowledged that these achievements are a result of the collaborative effort between the community and government partners. “Together, we’re delivering projects that protect homes, connect communities and strengthen our city – with benefits that will be felt for years to come,” he stated.

These restoration efforts are supported by funding from both the Australian and New South Wales governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, reflecting a commitment to rebuilding and enhancing community resilience for the future. The progress achieved by Lismore City Council serves as a beacon of hope for residents as they continue to recover from recent challenges, focusing on building a stronger, more connected community.
