Kevin J. Reddington, the attorney representing Lindsay Clancy, has filed a motion in Plymouth Superior Court seeking to relocate her upcoming murder trial to Suffolk Superior Court in Boston. Clancy is accused of the tragic killings of her three young children in 2023, an event that has garnered significant media attention and scrutiny.
In his motion, Reddington highlights concerns over the extensive and potentially prejudicial media coverage surrounding the case, asserting that it has been portrayed in a manner that undermines Clancy’s constitutional right to a fair trial. Clancy, 35, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder in the deaths of her children: Cora, aged 5, Dawson, aged 3, and Callan, aged 8 months. Prosecutors allege she strangled the children with exercise bands after sending her husband, Patrick, to pick up takeout. Following the events, Clancy attempted to harm herself, resulting in paralysis; she is currently being held at Tewksbury Hospital, receiving mental health treatment.
Reddington has indicated that he plans to utilize an insanity defense for Clancy, arguing that her mental health condition at the time of the incident affected her ability to comply with the law. Should Clancy be found not guilty by reason of insanity, she would be placed in a state psychiatric facility, where her progress would be periodically assessed.
