Linda Ronstadt expressed her condemnation of Donald J. Trump on Wednesday night, just ahead of his planned campaign rally in Tucson the following day. Ronstadt felt the need to voice her concerns as the event is set to take place at a venue that bears her name.
In her statement, she also showed support for Vice President Kamala Harris and criticized Trump on various issues, including the sexual assault allegations against him—he was found liable for sexual abuse in a civil case last year—and his felony convictions in New York. Ronstadt particularly condemned the Trump administration’s policy that led to the separation of thousands of migrant families at the southern border, which resulted in children being placed in shelters and foster care while their parents faced criminal charges.
“It saddens me to see the former president bring his hate show to Tucson, a city with rich Mexican American heritage and a spirit of joy and tolerance,” Ronstadt stated.
She added, “I don’t just deplore his toxic politics, his hatred of women, immigrants, and people of color, his criminality, dishonesty, and ignorance — although there’s that. For me, it ultimately comes down to this: In Nogales and throughout the southern border, the Trump administration systematically tore apart migrant families seeking asylum.”
