US rapper Lil Durk has been arrested on charges of murder-for-hire. The rapper, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested in Broward County, Florida, on Thursday night and is currently being held without bail.
This arrest follows reports that five individuals associated with Lil Durk’s hip-hop collective, Only The Family (OTF), were charged in connection to a shooting last year that resulted in the death of the cousin of rival rapper Quando Rondo. The charges against the group allegedly relate to a 2022 incident in Los Angeles, seen as retaliation for the death of King Von, a fellow rapper associated with OTF.
Lil Durk, 33, has garnered significant acclaim, including a Grammy for best melodic rap performance earlier this year for the song “All My Life,” featuring J Cole. Since 2019, he has released six albums that reached the top five of the US Billboard chart and collaborated with major artists such as Drake and J Cole.
According to police records, an unidentified co-conspirator in the recent indictment allegedly incentivized involvement in killing Quando Rondo by offering financial rewards and music contracts with OTF. The incident in question involved shots fired at a vehicle carrying Quando Rondo, his sister, and his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, resulting in Robinson’s tragic death.
Earlier this month, a lawsuit was filed by the mother of another Chicago rapper, FBG Duck, claiming that Lil Durk, OTF, and King Von were involved in Duck’s murder in 2020. Additionally, Lil Durk previously faced attempted murder charges in relation to a shooting in Atlanta in 2019, which were later dropped.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Lil Durk’s representatives are ongoing.
