The all-boys choir from Leo High School on Chicago’s South Side is making waves in the competition on “America’s Got Talent” with a performance that has dazzled both judges and the public, securing them a coveted spot in the finals. In a recent semi-final episode, the choir captivated the audience with their rendition of Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries,” a performance that even got some of the judges dancing.

Judge Howie Mandel showered praise on the group, commenting on their ability to make the performance both current and enjoyable, calling the song choice and performance “great.” Mel B of the Spice Girls expressed her emotional connection to the act, commending the choir for their heartfelt performance. Legendary judge Simon Cowell regarded the choir as the most improved act of the season and urged viewers to support the choir and their director, LaDonna Hill, in their journey to the finals.

LaDonna Hill, who recently retired after a 25-year teaching career, has been instrumental in guiding the choir. Despite not having musical training, the choir members have worked with Hill, who has embraced their talents and committed to nurturing them. For Hill, the choir’s journey is not just about the competition but also about filling personal voids and shaping young lives.

Since stepping onto the “America’s Got Talent” stage in March, the choir has been diligently rehearsing and seizing performance opportunities in Chicago, including significant events like ceremonies at Wrigley Field. Hill’s leadership and dedication have been pivotal, especially following personal loss, as she channels her energies into mentoring the young choir members.

As the finals approach, the Leo High School choir stands as one of ten acts remaining in the competition, with four acts having received the illustrious “Golden Buzzer” from the judges. The finals, scheduled for September 23 and 24, will determine which act earns the title and the $1 million prize.

The journey has been transformative for the choir members, offering them more than just musical education but life lessons from Mrs. Hill. Simon Cowell encapsulated the choir’s journey with optimism, urging America to support a group that has shown remarkable growth and camaraderie. The anticipation builds as this talented group of young men prepares to take the stage once more, encouraged by a community eager to see them succeed. The Leo High School choir’s story is one of dedication, mentorship, and the power of music to bring people together.
