After more than thirty years since his first appearance, Lenny Kravitz graced the stage of the MTV Video Music Awards once again on Wednesday night.
Joined by his long-time guitarist Craig Ross, Quavo, and a dynamic group of dancers, Kravitz delivered performances of “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Human,” and a remix of his popular track “Fly,” featuring Quavo. The updated version, released last month, showcased a mix of trap beats and energetic verses as the dancers embodied both hair metal and modern rap aesthetics.
This year, Kravitz took home the award for Best Rock Video for his music video of “Human,” a single from his latest album, Blue Electric Light, which debuted in May. He first made waves at the VMAs in 1993 with “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” winning the Moon Person for Best Male Video that year.
The last time Kravitz performed at the VMAs was in 1998, when he played guitar alongside Madonna for her song “Ray of Light.” Despite not appearing on the album version, he has collaborated with Madonna in the past, co-writing her hit “Justify My Love.”
Other notable performances at this year’s VMAs included artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, LL Cool J, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, and Chappell Roan. Taylor Swift and Post Malone lead the nominations this year. The awards were held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
