Lenny Kravitz made a triumphant return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage on Wednesday night, more than thirty years after his first appearance. He performed his classics “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Human,” and a remix of his well-known song “Fly,” featuring rapper Quavo. The remix, released last month, incorporated trap beats and energetic verses from Quavo, supported by a group of dancers showcasing a blend of hair metal and rap influences.
Kravitz took home the award for Best Rock Video for his song “Human,” which is part of his latest album, Blue Electric Light, released in May. He first graced the VMAs in 1993 with “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” winning the Moon Person for Best Male Video for the song’s music video.
His last performance at the VMAs was in 1998, where he joined Madonna on her hit “Ray of Light.” Although Kravitz did not play on the album version, he has collaborated with Madonna, co-writing her popular song “Justify My Love.”
This year’s VMAs also featured performances from Megan Thee Stallion, LL Cool J, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, and Chappell Roan, with Taylor Swift and Post Malone leading the nominations. The event is being held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
