Eight families in Lekanai Village, located in Vanuaso, Gau, are now enjoying improved living conditions thanks to the recent commissioning of eight rural housing projects. The initiative, led by Mosese Bulitavu, the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, is part of the Rural Housing Assistance Programme’s Scheme 3.

This pilot project in Lekanai Village exemplifies a strong partnership among the Government, local community members, and the beneficiaries themselves, aimed at providing sustainable housing solutions tailored for rural and maritime regions. As part of the program, families contributed timber sourced from community-owned pine schemes, while the Government provided the necessary hardware materials to complete the construction of these homes.

Bulitavu emphasized that these newly built homes will not only enhance housing standards but also elevate the overall quality of life for the families involved. He noted that this project is a clear reflection of the Government’s ongoing commitment to improving the wellbeing and resilience of rural communities. The positive impact of such initiatives bodes well for the future, suggesting a pathway toward sustainable development in similar areas.
