Eight families in Lekanai Village, located in Vanuaso, Gau, are experiencing better living conditions following the recent launch of eight rural housing projects. This initiative, spearheaded by Mosese Bulitavu, the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, is part of the government’s Rural Housing Assistance Programme, specifically Scheme 3.

The project in Lekanai Village represents a successful collaboration between the government, local community members, and the families benefiting from the program. It aims to provide sustainable housing solutions tailored for rural and maritime regions. Notably, families contributed timber from community-owned pine schemes, while the government supplied essential hardware materials needed for the construction of their homes.

Bulitavu highlighted that these newly constructed homes will significantly raise housing standards and improve the overall quality of life for the families involved. He reiterated that this project exemplifies the government’s ongoing commitment to enhance the wellbeing and resilience of rural communities. The positive outcomes of such initiatives are promising and indicate a roadmap for sustainable development in similar regions, fostering hope for future projects that could catalyze further improvements in living conditions across rural areas.
