To find the ideal solution, LEGO evaluated approximately 180 different types and formats of paper. The goal was to create packaging that meets the high expectations of their customers—ensuring the bags are robust enough to survive the manufacturing process and transportation without tearing or compromising the contents.
Another challenge is the material’s responsiveness to humidity; paper is more susceptible to moisture changes than plastic. Therefore, LEGO was diligent in selecting packaging materials suitable for production environments ranging from hot and humid to cold climates.
The company also tested 15 different prototypes with hundreds of children and parents to gather feedback on various shapes, materials, and graphic designs.
