LEGO Ideas The Goonies diorama brings treasure-hunt nostalgia to life

The nostalgia-inducing treasure hunt of “The Goonies” is being revived in a fresh and exciting way. The LEGO Group has announced the launch of LEGO Ideas: The Goonies, a comprehensive diorama set featuring 2,912 pieces that expertly encapsulate the essence of the beloved 1985 adventure film. Set to release on November 1 for LEGO Insiders and November 4 for the general public, this set allows fans to relive the quest for One-Eyed Willy’s treasure through meticulously crafted scenes, including the Fratellis’ hideout, cavern tunnels, and the infamous pirate ship, the Inferno.

The concept was brought to life by Vaggelis Ntezes, a 3D artist from Greece, who submitted the design via the LEGO Ideas platform where fans can propose new creations for consideration. Ntezes expressed his goal to “capture the spirit of adventure that made the film so unforgettable.”

In celebration of this release, LEGO has partnered with Ke Huy Quan, the actor who portrayed Data in the original film and recently received an Oscar for his performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Quan shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Revisiting Data after all these years, but this time in LEGO form, has been such a joyful experience.”

The set will include twelve minifigures featuring the main characters like Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, Andy, and Data, along with playful Easter eggs that reference classic movie moments, such as Data’s utility belt and a nod to a deleted scene involving an octopus. Builders will be able to activate various features, including trapdoors and a Skeleton Organ, adding an interactive component to the nostalgic experience.

Priced at $309.99, the Goonies LEGO set is targeted towards adult LEGO enthusiasts. Those who purchase the set early will also receive a bonus gift: The Goonies: The Walsh’ Attic, a 179-piece mini-scene showcasing the moment Mikey and his friends discover the treasure map. This promotion will run from November 1 to November 7, while supplies last.

The excitement surrounding this launch not only highlights the enduring popularity of “The Goonies” but also showcases LEGO’s commitment to creating intricate and immersive building experiences for fans both young and old.
