As the Texas Tech softball team and coach Gerry Glasco prepare to make their mark in the 2025 Women’s College World Series, they are inspired by the memory of Gerry’s late daughter, Geri Ann Glasco. Geri Ann, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2019, left a significant legacy in the sport, embodying the spirit and dedication that continues to resonate with players and coaches alike.
During a recent game against Texas, Oklahoma pitcher Sam Landry honored Geri Ann by wearing her name inside her glove. Landry expressed her deep connection to Geri Ann, reminiscing about the time they spent together when Geri Ann was a volunteer coach at Louisiana-Lafayette under her father. Landry believes that carrying Geri Ann’s memory is a way to support Coach Gerry Glasco as they navigate through this challenging time.
Geri Ann Glasco was celebrated during her high school years at Oconee County in Watkinsville, Georgia. She was awarded the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2012 and established numerous GHSA career records, including 47 home runs. Geri Ann brought two state championship titles to Oconee County, culminating her high school career with remarkable achievements, including a perfect 19-0 season senior year.
Her impact extended beyond her athletic prowess; she began her coaching career shortly after her collegiate play at Oregon, working closely with her father. Tragically, she lost her life at just 24 years old in a multi-vehicle crash in Louisiana.
As Texas Tech advances to the Women’s College World Series for the first time, Gerry Glasco and his family find solace and motivation in Geri Ann’s memory. Gerry shared a poignant moment when he recalled how Geri Ann’s jersey number, 12, was honored throughout their journey: “The night of the drawing…Tara said, ‘If we get to the 12th seed you know we’ll go to the World Series.’ Sure enough, it comes up on TV.”
The bittersweet journey showcases the resilience of the Glasco family and the enduring spirit of Geri Ann, whose legacy in softball continues to inspire players from various teams. As they navigate this momentous occasion, the Texas Tech softball team carries her memory, demonstrating that the love and influence of a remarkable individual can transcend loss and inspire greatness.
