Lee Greenwood, known for his hit song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” and Chris Janson, famous for “Buy Me a Boat,” are among the participants at the Republican National Convention, which runs through Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Other attendees include lawmakers, governors, officials, rapper Amber Rose, and media personalities Tucker Carlson and Savannah Chrisley.
Greenwood, whose 1984 hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, has earned seven No. 1 hits on the same chart, including “Mornin’ Ride” in 1987. Janson has achieved two No. 1 hits on the Country Airplay chart with “Done” and “Good Vibes.” His 2015 breakthrough song “Buy Me a Boat” is certified 4x multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The convention follows an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump’s right ear was wounded, and one spectator was killed, with others injured. Secret service agents killed the gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
Greenwood posted a photo with Trump on Instagram, urging people to pray for him. Trump is expected to appear at the convention and recently named Hillbilly Elegy author-turned-politician J.D. Vance as his vice presidential pick.
