Lee Greenwood, known for his iconic song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” and Chris Janson, famous for “Buy Me a Boat,” are set to participate in the Republican National Convention, which runs through Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The convention will also feature lawmakers, governors, and officials, along with rapper Amber Rose and media personalities Tucker Carlson and Savannah Chrisley.
Greenwood’s 1984 hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and he has achieved seven No. 1 hits on the same chart, including “Mornin’ Ride” in 1987. Janson has secured two No. 1 spots on the Country Airplay chart with “Done” and “Good Vibes” from 2019. His breakthrough song “Buy Me a Boat” from 2015 is certified 4x multi-platinum by the RIAA.
The Republican National Convention follows an apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald J. Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump’s right ear was wounded in the shooting, which also resulted in one spectator’s death and several injuries, according to the New York Times. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was killed by secret service agents.
On Instagram, Greenwood posted a photo with Trump, asking for prayers and writing, “God bless the USA.”
Trump is expected to appear at the convention. Additionally, on Monday, he named Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance as his vice presidential pick, according to CNN.
