When asked about the possibility of fatigue impacting player performance, Berube admitted that travel and scheduling have taken a toll. The team returned home late after their game in Winnipeg, which may have contributed to the mental lapses observed during the game. Despite a strong start, Berube highlighted that mental errors ultimately decided the match, reiterating the importance of discipline and smart play.
The discussion also touched on player Matthew Knies, who is currently battling an ongoing injury. Berube mentioned that while the upcoming Olympic break could provide much-needed rest, Knies does not have that luxury at the moment. The coaching staff has been cautious, limiting his ice time to help with his recovery. “I thought he competed hard tonight and did some good things,” Berube remarked, praising Knies for his effort despite the challenges.
Regarding goaltender Joseph Woll, who has allowed 11 goals in his last two starts, Berube expressed confidence that Woll will overcome his struggles with traffic in front of the net.
