The highly anticipated LAX/Metro Transit Center will officially open to the public on Friday afternoon, marking a significant development in Los Angeles’ public transportation system by linking riders directly to one of the busiest airports globally. This new center has been in development for several years and is strategically timed to accommodate the massive influx of visitors for major upcoming global events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, Super Bowl 2027, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro, emphasized the long-standing desire to enhance transit access to the airport, stating, “It’s been decades talking about how do we get transit to the airport.” She noted that successful transit systems worldwide share a common feature: a direct connection to the airport.

The station, located at the intersection of Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, will serve both the C and K light rail lines and several bus lines operated by Metro and other agencies. In addition to being a transit hub, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will provide amenities such as a bike hub, restrooms, and options for taxis, ridesharing, and private vehicles.

To ensure the safety of its passengers, Metro will implement 24-hour security at the center and is taking measures to enhance security at all stations throughout Southern California.

Opening at 5 p.m. on Friday, the Metro is promoting the launch by offering free fares during the opening weekend. The new center will also feature a free shuttle service operating every 10 minutes, connecting passengers to all LAX terminals by providing pick-up and drop-off at the lower level of each terminal.

Looking ahead, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will be further integrated with the upcoming People Mover Connection, set to debut in 2026, which will facilitate even quicker access to LAX. Short-term and long-term parking will also be available, ensuring convenience for all travelers.

This new transit center represents a major step forward in modernizing and enhancing public transportation in Los Angeles, making it easier for residents and tourists alike to navigate the city.
