NBC has made a notable change to an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU” after recasting a role originally intended for actor Timothy Busfield, who has faced serious legal issues. David Zayas, known for his prominent role in “Dexter,” will now take on the part of a judge in the episode titled “Corrosive,” which is set to air on February 26. This comes after NBC decided to pull the episode following the news of Busfield’s arrest.

The decision was made in light of allegations that Busfield abused two boys on the set of the Fox drama series “The Cleaning Lady,” filmed in Albuquerque. The incidents reportedly took place in 2024 when the boys were seven and eight years old. The allegations include inappropriate touching, and the boys referred to Busfield as “Uncle Tim,” which raised concerns for their parents.

Authorities were alerted to the allegations by a doctor from the University of New Mexico Hospital, prompting an investigation into Busfield’s conduct. If convicted, Busfield could face significant prison time, with a minimum sentence of three years.

This is not the first time Busfield has found himself in legal trouble, as he has faced similar allegations in the past, including a lawsuit settlement involving a 17-year-old extra and claims of groping a woman on a date. His involvement in the “Law & Order” franchise includes guest appearances and directing roles, making his recent charges starkly contrast with his professional history.

As the legal proceedings unfold, audiences can expect to see David Zayas stepping into the role, reaffirming the show’s commitment to maintaining its high standards and responding promptly to changing circumstances. “Law & Order: SVU” is a staple on NBC, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET, and remains accessible for many viewers through various streaming options such as Peacock.
