State lawyer Sheenal Swastika has requested additional time from the High Court in Lautoka to provide transcripts from the caution interview video of murder accused Shameem Ali. Ali, who is facing charges for the murder of Firdosh Mohammed at Tomuka on March 5, appeared before Justice Riyaz Hamza with representation from his lawyer, Losana Taukei.
During the court proceedings, Ms. Swastika informed the judge that the State had yet to receive the necessary interview transcripts from the investigating officer, which are essential for the case. The proposed pretrial conference checklist, another critical element of the proceedings, is also still pending.
Ms. Swastika asked for a period of 21 days to submit the agreed facts, interview transcripts, and draft pretrial conference checklist to the court. Following this submission, the defense team is expected to respond accordingly.
Furthermore, Ms. Taukei noted that she had previously filed a supplementary affidavit concerning Mr. Ali’s bail application on June 20. As a result of these developments, Justice Hamza adjourned both the substantive matters and the bail hearing, rescheduling them for July 17.
The legal proceedings are currently ongoing, reflecting the importance of ensuring all necessary documentation is thoroughly reviewed before moving forward. This adherence to protocol demonstrates the court’s commitment to a fair trial process.
