Lautoka City Council has taken decisive action against litter offenders, issuing a strong warning after successfully identifying and penalizing those responsible for illegal dumping along Queen’s Road in Wairabetia. Shalend Singh, the Head of Service, stated that following previous enforcement efforts by Litter Prevention Officers on Savu Street, the Council launched a comprehensive investigation. This led to the identification of an offender linked to several sites of dumped waste.
The individual was issued three litter infringement notices under the Litter Act 2008 and was mandated to remove the dumped material without delay. A follow-up inspection conducted on Sunday confirmed that all three areas of litter were completely cleared, facilitated by the use of an excavator and truck.
In addition to this enforcement action, Council officers organized awareness sessions for vendors at Saweni Top, during which one individual was fined for littering. The Council’s rural garbage contractor was also enlisted to clear additional litter piles located opposite the Superfoods supermarket.
Singh emphasized the Council’s commitment to persistently trace and penalize litter offenders, reinforcing that stringent measures will be implemented to uphold the law and ensure accountability. He urged residents to collaborate with the Council in their efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and attractive Lautoka City, fostering a community spirit in the fight against littering.
