Challenges arising from aging infrastructure at Lautoka Hospital may soon be resolved as Aspen Medical collaborates with the Government on their public-private partnership to enhance the facility’s deteriorating structures.

Gavin Whiteside, Chief Executive of Aspen Medical for Fiji, spoke to FBC News about the significant hurdles posed by the hospital’s old infrastructure, which dates back to its establishment in 1925. He pointed out that various parts of the hospital are currently facing structural difficulties due to age.

Whiteside emphasized that efforts to upgrade these facilities have already commenced, indicating that there are ongoing discussions regarding further refurbishment projects. “We are currently working with a host of teams and specialists, both domestically and internationally, on infrastructure upgrades,” he stated. He encouraged the public to notice the positive changes taking place around the facility.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, Minister for Health and Medical Services, affirmed that the Government is actively partnering with Aspen Medical to bolster hospital infrastructure. He acknowledged that these infrastructure challenges are some of the most pressing issues in Fiji’s healthcare system and reassured that the Government is prioritizing initiatives to address these concerns.

The combined efforts of the public and private sectors signal a promising future for Lautoka Hospital, potentially leading to enhanced healthcare services for the community.
