Lautoka Father Charged with Murder Over Child’s Death Following CID Probe

Lautoka Father Charged in Child’s Murder as CID Reveals Assault Evidence

A 25-year-old man has been formally charged with the murder of his 3-year-old child in Lomolomo, Lautoka, following a comprehensive police investigation. Initially reported as an unfortunate domestic accident, where it was claimed the child had fallen and sustained injuries, the narrative shifted dramatically due to further inquiries by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The CID’s thorough investigation uncovered evidence suggesting the child’s injuries were inflicted through alleged physical assault by the father, contradicting early reports of an accidental fall. Consequently, the father has been charged with both murder and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The accused appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court on September 29, 2025. Following the proceedings, he was remanded in custody, and the case has been moved to the Lautoka High Court for another hearing slated for October 13, 2025.

This tragic incident echoes a similar case recently reported in another region, where a man in his 30s faced charges related to the death of a child, allegedly resulting from assault. In both instances, the alleged offenders were noted to have histories of abusive behavior. Such cases underscore the urgent need for proactive vigilance and protective measures in domestic environments to avert such devastating outcomes. These tragedies serve as sobering reminders of potential hidden threats within households and underscore the importance of safeguarding children and reporting any suspicion of abuse without delay.

There is a critical need to emphasize community awareness and encourage prompt reporting, which could aid in early intervention to prevent such heartbreaking incidents. By fostering a culture of vigilance and responsiveness, communities can help protect vulnerable children and ultimately save lives.
