The Lautoka City Council has successfully completed a significant upgrade of the city’s bus terminal, with the project costing $2.8 million, fully funded through its own resources. This marks the first extensive rehabilitation of the terminal in an impressive 42 years.

During the inauguration on Monday, Taitusi Rasoki, chairperson of the Board of Special Administrators, announced that the total expenditure on the project was $2,774,664, completed on time and without exceeding the initial budget. He expressed his gratitude toward both the consultant and contractor for adhering to the set timelines.

“This upgrade was completed within the agreed timeframe and estimated cost, without any additional expenses to the council,” Rasoki stated. Notably, the produced enhancements at the terminal include new concrete surfaces, painting, and the installation of CCTV cameras, all aimed at boosting safety and functionality for its users.

After decades of neglect, the new special administrators and management recognized the immediate need for improvements, with Rasoki emphasizing the importance of this project. “The upgrade of the deteriorating Lautoka bus station is a priority and a necessity,” he remarked.

The project was undertaken in partnership with West End Consulting PTE Ltd as consultants and Hot Spring High Services PTE Ltd as the lead contractor. With this upgrade, Lautoka’s bus terminal is set to provide a safer and more efficient experience for passengers, signifying a positive step forward for the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
