UCLA center Lauren Betts has cemented herself as one of college basketball’s premier bigs while drawing attention for coming from an unusually athletic family. The 22-year-old transfer from Stanford has averaged 17.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks across 98 college games through three seasons, and is widely expected to enter the WNBA draft this spring — though she still has one last opportunity this season to chase a national championship with the Bruins.

Betts’ athletic pedigree is unmistakable. Her mother, Michelle Betts, was a standout on the volleyball court at Long Beach State and helped the program capture the 1993 national title. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter was part of a 27-2 Beach squad that defeated Penn State for the championship, a milestone that remains central to the family’s sporting history.

Her father, Andy Betts, also played at the highest collegiate level before carving out a lengthy professional career overseas. A 7-foot-1 center, Andy played at LIU Post and Long Beach State and was selected in the second round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He spent 14 years playing in European leagues — including stints in Greece, Italy and Spain — and Lauren was born while he was competing in Spain’s Liga ACB. The couple later divorced; they had three children together.

The Betts sporting legacy extends to Lauren’s siblings, who are following her footsteps on the hardwood. Middle sister Sienna is a freshman forward on UCLA’s roster, logging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per game in her first season. Recruiting services have highly touted her potential as well: 247Sports listed Sienna as the No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2025 in its rankings cited by reports.

The youngest sibling, Dylan Betts, is already drawing national attention as a rising prospect. A 7-foot-3 center attending IMG Academy, Dylan is a five-star recruit per 247Sports and is ranked No. 10 overall in his recruiting class and No. 4 among centers. At his size he outpaces even Lauren, who is among the tallest players in the college game, and Sienna, who is listed at 6-4.

Betts also has a half-brother on her father’s side, Ashton, who is still in elementary school. With Lauren poised to move to the professional ranks and two younger siblings already on the collegiate and prep stages, the Betts family appears likely to remain prominent in basketball conversations for years to come.
