STRATUM Construction Rewa has broken a 15-year title drought with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over RC Manubhai Ba in the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) final, held at the 4R Stadium in Govind Park. This hard-earned triumph thrilled more than 13,000 fans who filled the stands, eager to witness an intense battle between two prominent football clubs.
Ba initiated the match with a strong start, showcasing their tall striker Etonia Dogelau, who, despite creating several chances, was unable to score. Rewa’s goalkeeper, James Do’oro, delivered a stellar performance, making crucial saves to keep the scoreboard level at halftime.
As the second half unfolded, the evenly matched contest took a turn when Rewa’s defender Kavaia Rawaqa received a second yellow card, leading to his ejection from the game. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Rewa displayed remarkable resolve and continued to push for an opportunity.
The decisive moment arrived in the 76th minute when substitute Asivorosi Rabo was fouled in the penalty area. Patrick Joseph stepped up and coolly converted the penalty, giving Rewa a crucial lead. Ba’s attempts to equalize suffered further setbacks when a player was also sent off for accumulating two yellow cards, leaving them down to ten men.
This victory marks Rewa’s first IDC title since 2010 and highlights their remarkable journey, having last claimed a major tournament victory in 2020 during the Battle of the Giants. Reflecting on the achievement, coach and player Tevita Waranivalu said, “It was all in God’s timing. I took over the coaching responsibilities in July, and the journey has not been easy, but we have managed to win the IDC. I thank everyone involved in our journey.”
Despite the loss, Ba’s coach, Joshua Wilson, expressed pride in his team’s performance and the unwavering support they received from their fans: “I am super proud. A big thank you to all the fans who turned up in numbers and pushed the boys when we needed them the most.”
In addition to the glory of victory, Rewa was rewarded financially, receiving $25,000 in prize money alongside an additional $25,000 from sponsors Stratum Construction, which will be distributed among the players. Individual honors were also awarded, with Do’oro earning the golden glove, John Orobulu winning the golden boot, and Gabrieli Matanisiga being celebrated as the tournament’s best player.
Rewa’s triumph not only celebrates the team’s resilience but also ignites the passion for football in the region, showcasing the thrilling potential embedded in local sports. Their dedication and persistence in achieving this long-awaited title signal a bright future for both the team and Fijian football.
