Las Vegas Grand Prix: 200 mph Showdown on the Strip

Formula 1 cars are set to hit incredible speeds exceeding 200 mph on the iconic Las Vegas Strip this weekend as the Las Vegas Grand Prix returns for its third installment. The weekend kicks off with practice sessions on Thursday, featuring Free Practice 1 at 4:30 p.m. for one hour, followed by Free Practice 2 at 8 p.m.

On Friday, motorsport enthusiasts can look forward to Free Practice 3 at 4:30 p.m. and the crucial qualifying session at 8 p.m. The highly anticipated Grand Prix race is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, promising a thrilling spectacle for fans.

However, attendees should be aware of traffic modifications due to road closures associated with the event. Lane and ramp closures on Interstate 15 will persist through Sunday, operating from midnight to 4 a.m. Intermittent closures will affect ramps from I-15 to Spring Mountain, Flamingo, and Harmon, while lanes will also see reductions on Spring Mountain and Flamingo roads. The Nevada Department of Transportation advises drivers to exercise caution in work zones and explore alternate routes.

Fans hoping for unobstructed views may be disappointed, as race organizers have restricted visibility from pedestrian bridges over the track. Following incidents in 2023, where attendees peeled off film from bridge plexiglass to catch a glimpse of the race, Clark County has implemented safety measures including metal fencing and enclosures. This has resulted in limited free viewing options, with the escalator to a key pedestrian bridge blocked, funneling tourists towards a less accessible view.

For those looking to enjoy the race atmosphere without attending in person, Henderson is hosting a free Formula 1 watch party at Water Street Plaza on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. This event will feature a giant 42-foot screen, live DJ entertainment, and food trucks. Additionally, a pet supply drive for Henderson Animal Protection Services will provide attendees with chances to win tickets to next year’s race. It is advisable for attendees to bring blankets and chairs, as alcohol will not be permitted at the venue.

Tickets for the main event remain available for purchase, making it an exciting time for motorsport fans in Las Vegas. With high speeds, thrilling races, and community events, the weekend promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for all involved.
