Lami Town is set to undergo significant improvements with the announcement of plans for the Tamavua-i-Wai and Tikaram Bridges, which are expected to enhance access and connectivity to the area. This initiative is anticipated to transform the local landscape, facilitating the growth of Tikaram Park to include a larger parking area and a modern transport hub. Notably, the proposed hub may feature water taxi services linking Lami to the capital city, Suva.

During a presentation to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Lami Town Council’s Acting Chief Executive, Azam Khan, remarked that these infrastructure projects are intended to alleviate traffic congestion and improve travel convenience for residents. He underscored the significance of the new bridges and expanded parking area in ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced options for motorists traveling to Suva.

Khan stated, “With the foreshore extension being realized through the Fiji Roads Authority’s bridge construction, the foreshore area is earmarked for Tikaram Park extension and also for a large car parking area. This will allow the town to manage traffic effectively and provide motorists with a place to park, as well as options to use public transport, including water taxis to Suva.”

Moreover, the foreshore is also set to accommodate a farmers’ market, a small commercial center, and a designated area for public transport. Khan confirmed that a concept design for these developments has been prepared, discussed, and approved by the Council. Ongoing collaboration with the Fiji Roads Authority aims to refine and advance these ambitious plans, signaling an optimistic future for Lami Town and its community.

The construction of these infrastructure projects not only promises to ease transportation challenges but also to foster community engagement through facilities like the farmers’ market, potentially enhancing the economic vitality of Lami Town.
