Lami Town is poised for significant enhancements as plans are unveiled for the construction of the Tamavua-i-Wai and Tikaram Bridges, which aim to improve access and connectivity to the township. This development promises to be transformative, facilitating the expansion of Tikaram Park to include a larger car parking facility and a modern public transport hub. The proposed transport hub may even feature water taxi services that would connect Lami to the capital city, Suva.

During a presentation to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Lami Town Council’s Acting Chief Executive, Azam Khan, emphasized that these infrastructure projects are designed to relieve traffic congestion and enhance travel convenience for local residents. He highlighted the importance of the new bridges and the enlarged parking area to ensure smoother traffic flow and better options for motorists heading to Suva.

Khan remarked, “With the foreshore extension being realized through the Fiji Roads Authority’s bridge construction, the foreshore area is earmarked for Tikaram Park extension and also for a large car parking area. This will allow the town to manage traffic effectively and provide motorists with a place to park, as well as options to use public transport, including water taxis to Suva.”

Additionally, the foreshore will also host a farmers’ market, a small commercial center, and a designated public transport area. Khan confirmed that a concept design for these improvements has already been prepared, discussed, and approved by the Council. Collaborations with the Fiji Roads Authority will continue to refine and advance these ambitious plans, signaling a bright future for Lami Town and its residents.
