LaMelo Ball Fined $35K for Gesture at Referee Following Hornets’ Loss to Heat

Charlotte Hornets’ standout player LaMelo Ball has been slapped with a $35,000 fine following an obscene gesture directed at a referee during the Hornets’ 144-117 defeat against the Miami Heat on October 28. This incident occurred late in the fourth quarter after Ball was called for an offensive foul while attempting to drive to the basket.

As a result of the gesture, Ball received a technical foul, marking the sixth such penalty levied against him this season. This fine adds to Ball’s history of disciplinary actions; previously, in 2024, he was fined $100,000 for using an offensive anti-gay term during a post-game interview.

Despite the setback of the fine and the team’s loss, Ball delivered a notable performance in the game, leading the Hornets with 20 points. He also contributed significantly with eight rebounds and nine assists. As the season progresses, Ball is making his mark, averaging 26.3 points, 9.5 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game over the initial four contests, showcasing his ongoing development as a formidable force in the league. This season holds promise for Ball and the Hornets, and fans are hopeful for a strong rebound from the team as they continue to navigate their early schedule.
