The Green Bay Packers parted ways with two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander earlier this month after unsuccessful negotiations for a contract amendment or a potential trade. As an unrestricted free agent now, Alexander is garnering interest from teams, including the Baltimore Ravens. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has publicly advocated for the team to sign his former college teammate during his time at Louisville from 2015 to 2017.
In a recent media session, Jackson encouraged Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta to pursue Alexander, emphasizing his admiration for the current cornerbacks while still expressing a desire for Alexander to join the lineup. “Go get him, Eric,” Jackson stated. The duo had a standout college career, with Jackson winning the Heisman Trophy and leading the Cardinals to notable success, including a peak ranking of No. 3 in the 2016 AP Top 25.
Despite Alexander’s impressive track record, his recent availability has been a concern. He played only seven games in the last two seasons due to injuries and a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. This followed a significant absence in 2021 due to a shoulder injury. Nevertheless, when healthy, Alexander has proven to be one of the top pass defenders in the league, with stats including 287 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 70 passes defended during his seven seasons in Green Bay.
Prior to his release, he was on a substantial contract, having signed a four-year, $84 million extension in 2022, which made him the highest-paid cornerback at that time. Now, entering the 2025 season at age 28, Alexander is in the prime of his career, with his next chapter likely to unfold with a new team following his selection by the Packers as the 18th overall pick in 2018.
This recruitment effort by Jackson not only shows the camaraderie they built during college but also highlights the potential impact of Alexander’s talent on a team like the Ravens, who are looking to strengthen their defensive line-up. The possibility of Alexander reclaiming his prime form in a new environment offers an optimistic outlook for both him and whichever team he ultimately joins.
