Lagos has transformed its lively streets into a showcase of bold murals and colorful graffiti as it celebrates its inaugural Street Art Festival. Titled “Legendary Lagos: City of Dreams,” the event features twelve artists—nine hailing from Nigeria and three from abroad—who are painting large-scale artworks on the city’s walls.
The festival aims to democratize art while inspiring social change. Osa Seven, one of the organizers, emphasized that art should not be restricted to galleries and museums. “Public art allows people to interact with creativity in their everyday environment. It’s about giving hope and showing what art can do to shape society,” he stated.
Among the participating artists is Lithuanian Andrey Adno, whose mural, “The Pace of Lagos,” encapsulates the vibrant energy of the city. Local artist HK Locks has chosen to explore themes of unity and migration in his work, portraying Lagos as a melting pot of diverse ethnicities and aspirations. “Lagos is where people come to chase dreams,” he shared, adding that his piece illustrates the collaboration and relentless pursuit that characterizes this dynamic city.
This initiative not only enhances the visual landscape of Lagos but also fosters community interaction with artistic expression, encouraging residents and visitors alike to engage with the creativity that flows through the city’s fabric. The festival reflects a growing appreciation for public art and its potential to inspire positive change within society.
