The Lagos State Government has taken decisive measures to uphold environmental standards by demolishing illegal shanties and a makeshift car wash in the Lekki area. This enforcement action, confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, is part of the continuous efforts to address environmental degradation and maintain public health standards.
The demolition targeted unlawful structures found at Lafiaji Beach and along Platinum Way in the Igbokusu area of Lekki. Wahab highlighted the negative impact of these shanties, noting that they contribute to environmental degradation through indiscriminate waste disposal and unhygienic practices, particularly along the state’s coastal corridors.
Wahab reiterated the state government’s firm stance against environmental misconduct. “As a government, we cannot allow these practices to persist unchecked. We remain committed to restoring order, safeguarding our waterfronts, and ensuring that public spaces are managed responsibly in line with environmental regulations,” he stated.
Through actions like these, the Lagos State Government aims to uphold environmental sustainability and ensure the health and well-being of its residents. The demolition is not only a move to improve cleanliness but also to send a clear message about the importance of adhering to environmental laws for the betterment of the community.
