Labasa Set for Ratu Sukuna Bowl Showdown as Fiji Police Aim to Defend Trophy Against RFMF

The Fiji Police Force is gearing up with determination to defend their title in the annual Ratu Sukuna Bowl against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) next month in Labasa. The highly anticipated sporting event, known for its fierce rivalry, features various contests, with rugby and soccer matches highlighted at Subrail Park on November 20th and 21st.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aporosa Lutunauga, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, emphasizing that despite being labeled the underdog, the police are committed to retaining the prestigious trophy. “To say that we are not aiming to retain the trophy would be a straight-out lie. The trophy will remain here in Nasova,” Lutunauga stated, highlighting the significance of this year’s event taking place in Labasa after many years.

The impending clash marks a momentous occasion for the Fiji Police Force as it celebrates its 150th Anniversary. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mesake Waqa echoed Lutunauga’s sentiments, stressing the players’ resolve to give their best for their organization, families, and supporters. He acknowledged the challenge posed by the RFMF, which is also eager to reclaim the trophy after the Police secured victory in a closely contested final last year.

As preparations intensify, the Fiji Police Rugby team benefits from the renewed support of sponsors such as Shop N Save. Waqa encouraged fans to rally behind their team across all sports, emphasizing community spirit alongside competition.

The excitement builds as the tournament begins Tuesday with boxing events, showcasing a variety of athletic talents and fostering camaraderie among participants. As both teams prepare for the upcoming rivalry, they not only strive for victory but also honor the legacies they represent and the unity reflected within Fiji’s sporting culture.
