Clothing retailers in Labasa are witnessing a significant surge in sales as the Diwali festival approaches next week. There is an increased demand for sarees and traditional Indian apparel, prompting shops throughout the town to bustle with activity as customers seek festive collections.
As the celebration draws near, the atmosphere has become vibrant, not only among those who observe Diwali but also among individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds who are purchasing traditional garments for office gatherings and community celebrations. According to Labasa Janta Store Director Vipin Chandra, there has been an exceptional rise in saree sales this year. He remarked, “This time, Diwali is very promising. It’s been very busy for the past two weeks. The arrival of new stock has created a lot of attraction—people are coming here to buy sarees for Diwali.”
Chandra highlighted the colorful and varied range of sarees available, showcasing modern styles alongside traditional designs, which have continuously drawn in a steady flow of shoppers. Another local business owner, Astika Ram, echoed this sentiment, noting that their expanded collection has attracted even more customers this festive season. “This year, Diwali is great for us. Compared to last year, this Diwali is better. We have a wider range of sarees, jewellery, lehenga suits, and other outfits, and more people are coming in to shop,” Ram shared.
With Diwali set to be celebrated next Tuesday, retailers in Labasa are optimistic about the ongoing boost in sales. The festive spirit is not only fostering a lively shopping environment but is also contributing positively to the local economy, highlighting a communal engagement during this special time of year. This celebration encourages unity and cultural diversity, reflecting the strength of Labasa’s community fabric. As shoppers prepare for the Festival of Lights, the anticipation and excitement surrounding Diwali create a heartening atmosphere for both retailers and customers alike.
