The Los Angeles Times has unveiled its lineup for the fourth season of Short Docs, a series dedicated to showcasing diverse perspectives from acclaimed and emerging filmmakers on the West Coast. Sponsored by Canon U.S.A., Inc., this season features a range of impactful short documentaries that highlight resilience amid adversity. The latest addition to the series, “Leaving the Point,” directed by Michael Fearon, is now available for streaming at latimes.com/shortdocs.

Film enthusiasts can look forward to several highly anticipated titles this season, including “Arctic Alchemy” by directors Colin Arisman and Zeppelin Zeerip. This documentary follows esteemed Alaskan adventurer and climate scientist Roman Dial and his team on a 112-mile research expedition above the Arctic Circle. Another compelling entry, “All The Walls Came Down” by Ondi Timoner, presents a deeply personal exploration of loss, resilience, and the collective battle against displacement, documenting the response of families in Altadena during the devastating LA fires of 2025. Additionally, “Songs of Black Folk,” directed by Justin Emeka and Haley Watson in collaboration with POV Shorts, captures a landmark concert in the Pacific Northwest celebrating a new chapter for Black artists. All these films will be accessible on The Times’ YouTube Channel and latimes.com later this year.

“Leaving the Point” examines the contentious land-use conflicts in Point Reyes National Seashore, focusing on the closures of ranches and the plight of multi-generational ranching families in the face of environmental challenges. Similarly, “Allensworth Rising” by directors Neenma Ebeledike and Isabella Marzban shines a light on a community’s struggle for clean water. More titles will be revealed throughout the season.

Terry Tang, Executive Editor of the Los Angeles Times, expressed enthusiasm for this new season, stating, “We are thrilled to be launching the fourth season of L.A. Times Short Docs with an impressive slate of films by extraordinary filmmakers. Each film highlights the strength that emerges in challenging circumstances, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience these powerful stories of hope and perseverance.”

Short Docs aims to provide a platform for filmmakers and to engage wider audiences in meaningful discussions. The initiative accepts submissions, curates a selection of films, and offers both on-demand viewing and in-person screenings, ensuring a rich community experience. Films selected for Short Docs are made available for online streaming by the Los Angeles Times and are showcased in limited theatrical releases at various festivals.

As the official imaging provider of the L.A. Times, Canon U.S.A. supports participating filmmakers by providing access to professional cinematic cameras and lenses, along with training and product support.

Since its inception in 2022, L.A. Times Short Docs has seen its filmmakers participate in major North American film festivals, such as Sundance and DOC NYC, with several works recognized with Academy Awards and other prestigious honors. The entire catalog of Short Docs, including the Oscar-winning film “The Last Repair Shop,” is available for viewers to stream online, showcasing the power of storytelling through film.
