Fans of Yorgos Lanthimos in Los Angeles have a unique opportunity to see his latest film, “Bugonia,” for free. A local cinema is hosting a special screening on Monday, inviting those who are either already bald or are willing to shave their heads on-site to receive complimentary tickets. This quirky initiative pays homage to Emma Stone’s character in the film, a pharmaceutical CEO who is kidnapped by conspiracy theorists who believe she is an alien and proceed to shave her head.

The event, which encourages participants to embrace this bold look, features a barber on-site to facilitate the head-shaving process for those willing to take the plunge. Attendees need to arrive after 6 PM to take part in the hair-raising event and must RSVP in advance, as space is limited. Participants must also be over 18, given that the film is rated R in the United States by the Motion Picture Association.

“Bugonia,” which marks another collaboration between Lanthimos and Stone, follows their critically acclaimed work on “The Favourite” and is generating buzz following positive reception at various film festivals. In interviews, Stone has spoken about the liberating feeling of shaving her head for the role, emphasizing the exhilaration that comes with it.

The film is set to be released in the US on a limited basis beginning October 24, with general release on October 31. Australia will see its release the day prior, on October 30, while the UK audience can expect it on the same day as the US general release.

As the excitement for “Bugonia” grows, this unique screening prompts intriguing conversations about self-expression and the journey of its characters, especially in a world where such bold decisions can create both a stir and a collective sense of community among attendees.
