Kyle Chandler in Talks to Star as Hal Jordan in HBO’s Green Lantern Series!

Kyle Chandler is reportedly in talks for a leading role in HBO’s upcoming Green Lantern series titled “Lanterns,” as confirmed by Variety’s sources. Should the negotiations be successful, Chandler would portray Hal Jordan, alongside John Stewart, both of whom are members of the Green Lantern Corps. Currently, there has been no casting announcement for the character of Stewart.

Representatives for HBO and Warner Bros. Television have opted not to comment, and Chandler’s representatives did not provide an immediate response to inquiries.

Chandler joins the ranks of other notable actors associated with the series; it was previously indicated that Josh Brolin was approached for the role of Hal Jordan but chose to decline. Chandler is widely recognized for his role in the acclaimed high school football drama “Friday Night Lights,” which aired on NBC for five seasons, earning him an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2011. His other television credits include “Bloodline” on Netflix and “Early Edition” on CBS. His filmography includes significant roles in projects like “King Kong,” “Super 8,” “Argo,” and “Manchester by the Sea.”

Chandler is represented by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

“Lanterns” was officially greenlit by HBO in June for eight episodes. The series will feature new recruit Stewart and veteran Lantern Jordan as “two intergalactic cops” drawn into a mysterious murder investigation set in the American heartland. Chris Mundy will serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer, with Damon Lindelof and Tom King also on board as executive producers and co-writers. The series is being produced by Warner Bros. TV in collaboration with DC Studios and HBO, based on the DC comic “Green Lantern.”

Under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios has announced several major projects, including the recently debuted live-action series “The Penguin” featuring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, as well as the upcoming animated series “Creature Commandos,” set to premiere on Max in December. Additionally, Gunn is preparing Season 2 of the DC series “Peacemaker,” starring John Cena.

Deadline was the first to report on Chandler’s discussions for “Lanterns.”
