The Memphis Grizzlies have confirmed that veteran forward Kyle Anderson has been placed on waivers following his buyout agreement. Sources report that Anderson intends to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves once he clears waivers. Anderson previously spent two successful seasons with the Timberwolves, even contributing to their playoff run to the Western Conference finals in the 2023/24 season.

Anderson’s time with the Grizzlies was brief, as he joined the team only after being traded from the Utah Jazz, where he played 20 games this season. He made a short appearance in just four games for Memphis due to their rebuilding focus. The 32-year-old is expected to bring experience and leadership back to the Timberwolves squad as they aim for another strong playoff showing.

This move comes as at least one other contending team had shown interest in acquiring Anderson, who is known for his versatility and defensive skills. During his time on the court this season, he has averaged 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals, shooting 56.3% from the field and maintaining a free throw percentage of 67.4%.

Though Anderson was under contract through next season, his $9.7 million salary for the 2026/27 season was non-guaranteed. The Timberwolves are optimizing their roster after trading for Ayo Dosunmu and Julian Phillips at the deadline, while also re-signing Mike Conley and adding Jules Bernard on a two-way contract.

In a corresponding move, the Grizzlies will fill the vacant roster spot left by Anderson by signing veteran big man Taj Gibson, who had remained out of the league until now. This series of moves signals both teams’ dedication to strategic adjustments as they pursue their respective goals this season.
